RWTH and Celonis Strengthen Collaboration by Creating the new Engineering and Innovation Lab on the RWTH Aachen Campus
On Friday May 20th, 2022, there was a festive meeting to signal the kick-off for the Celonis Engineering and Innovation Lab on the Campus of RWTH Aachen. Celonis is the global market leader in process mining and execution management and the most successful young IT company in Germany. RWTH Aachen University and Celonis signed a partnership agreement building upon the double role of prof. Wil van der Aalst, who is both a Professor at RWTH and the Chief Scientist of Celonis.
The new Celonis Engineering and Innovation Lab, to be established on RWTH Aachen Campus, will make it possible to achieve synergies in research and development and in the training of future process mining and execution management specialists. The new lab will focus on the further development of forward-looking process mining capabilities such as process discovery, conformance checking, predictive analytics, data-driven simulation, and machine learning. The collaboration provides many research opportunities because thousands of organizations are using the Celonis software to improve their processes. Process mining research requires access to real data and real processes.

Van der Aalst holds the Chair of Process and Data Science at RWTH and serves as Chief Scientist at Celonis. On RWTH Aachen Campus, a culture of entrepreneurial innovation meets with a unique knowledge community, whose research competencies will give a further boost to Celonis.”
