From the Fab Lab to the Own Company – From Chair to CHIO

08/07/2018

The young Aachen-based company Laserkatze also has its roots in the Fablab of the Chair of Media Informatics and Human-Computer Interaction at RWTH Aachen University. The passion of the founders Sophy and Henric Stönner for laser cutting was awakened here. Thanks to the support of Professor Jan Borchers, co-founder Sophy Stönner was able to build up and sharpen her knowledge in handling the CO2 laser. Her participation in the FabAcademy offered by the chair gave her deep insights into the field of Personal Fabrication with which she could evaluate the profitability and the establishment of a start-up.

Laserkatze was founded to produce highly individualized design objects for private and business customers. Meanwhile the business exists more than two years and it grows organically. Professor Borchers gave the founding team a boost for their current tailwind with new perspectives, motivation and the transfer of knowledge from the Fab Lab.

This year, the sibling's spin-off was able to make a contribution to the “World Equestrian Festival” – the CHIO Aachen 2018, which was recorded in the following video.
