CAiSE 2021: Best Poster Award for Strategic Modeling of Platform Ecosystems

08/07/2021

Dr. István Koren (PADS), Marc van Dyck (TIM), Stefan Braun and Prof. Matthias Jarke (DBIS/Fraunhofer FIT) won the Best Poster Award at the prestigious 33rd International Conference on Advanced Information Systems Engineering (CAiSE 2021) in virtual Melbourne with their paper entitled "Dynamic Strategic Modeling for Alliance-Driven Data Platforms: The Case of Smart Farming".

The paper builds upon a large-scale case study by Marc Van Dyck and colleagues in the Technology and Innovation Management (TIM, Prof. Frank Piller) in the agriculture domain, a sector of our economy where the biggest productivity gains in the last 70 years took place. The article connects strategic control points with conceptual modeling using the i* notation. This enables strategic modeling of new kinds of alliance-driven platforms as envisioned for instance by the International Data Spaces and GAIA-X initiatives. In future, the work will be extended, for example by simulation capabilities for players in data-based alliance-driven platform ecosystems. The work was carried out in work stream D.II: "External Perspective: Designing Mechanisms for Value Capture in Business Ecosystems for the IoP".
