Fraunhofer Center for Digital Energy Opened in Aachen
On April 28, 2020, Secretary of State Thomas Rachel from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) passed the funding notification for the first phase of the Fraunhofer Center for Digital Energy to the initators Prof. Stefan Decker and Prof. Matthias Jarke. The immediate action program included 5.1 million euros of funding.
The center will be constructed on RWTH Campus Melaten and established by Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Information Technology FIT (Professors Stefan Decker and Matthias Jarke), Fraunhofer Institute for Communication, Information Processing and Ergonomics FKIE (Professor Peter Martini), and university institutes IAEW (Professor Albert Moser) and E.ON ACS (Professor Antonello Monti) from the field of energy technologies. The aim of the new center is to build foundations for a digital energy infrastructure in the Rhenish region which is technically reliable, secured from digital attacks, and economically attractive, and to bring this infrastructure to the production stage.
