Informatik-Kolloquium: Adaptive Execution Environments from Many-Core Systems to Edge-Computing

Montag, 14.05.2018, 10.00 Uhr

Ort: E3 Raum 9222, Ahornstraße 55

Referent: Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dr. h.c. Stefan Wesner, Institut für Organisation u. Management von Informationssystemen und Kommunikations- und Informationszentrum, Uni Ulm

Abstract:

In the first part of the talk the approach to address increasing hardware heterogeneity taken in the BMBF funded ProThOS project is presented. The solution relies on the domain agnostic AnyDSL language for realising a programming environment where the development process is split into a domain specific and hardware aware programming activity. In the second part based on Use Cases from the EU funded ReCap Project it is discussed how such an approach could be applied to an Edge Computing context. Similar to the High Performance Computing environment efficiency is a key requirement and the underpinning infrastructure might be quite diverse. The common approach for addressing this diversity with virtualization comes with high costs in terms of performance and energy efficiency.
