Project House ICMEaix
Integrated Computational Materials Engineering, ICME for short, aims at the computer-based prediction of component properties as a function of local material characteristics, taking into account the entire production chain. The simulation chain is physics-based and describes the microstructure development at all relevant length scales and the microstructure-property correlation from the initial shaping and the differentproduction processes through to material utilization.
The ICMEaix project house is the umbrella organization for all modeling and simulation activities in the area of structural materials at RWTH Aachen and in the University's collaborations with Forschungszentrum Jülich, the Max-Planck-Institut für Eisenforschung MPIE, Düsseldorf, the German Aerospace Center DLR, and the Society for Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology DECHEMA, Frankfurt.
ICMEaix seeks to pool the simulation activities of the various RWTH departments, to improve the collaboration and exchange between the involved institutions, and provide the ability to address research questions in the field of numerical materials and process development beyond the expertise of individual actors and institutions.
The project house will establish the Aachen Virtual Platform for Materials Processing, AixViPMaP for short, as an infrastructure providing computing power and software licenses and function as a service provider for external partners.
