Her research focuses on how to make information on process, environment, and machine surveillance usable using sensor technology and modern machine and process data analysis processes.

In his research he is concerned with the situational, social establishment of new knowledge – its dissemination, acceptance or dismissal – and with the interdependency between social environment and knowledge of any kind. Furthermore he looks at forms of communication, particularly the letter over the course of the Middle Ages.
